Speaking Formats

Presentation lengths are flexible, from 10 minutes to an hour or longer, as appropriate for your audience and occasion. Full-day or weekend programs of concentrated depth are available on request. I can adapt to the venue, from being an eager advocate to being a moderate moderator, interacting as befits the occasion.

Being myself is what I do best.

Audience Participation: Please allow time and space for interacting with the audience. When possible, I like to stimulate dialogue among everyone there. My intent is for us to experience together the power of interactive communication, how we steer the flow of ideas and feelings by the way we interact in open exchanges.

Room Arrangement: Everybody facing the front in straight rows tends to limit eye contact among us. So, can we do circular seating, or seating in curved rows, or seating around tables? I'm hoping the setting enhances our shared sense of interactivity.

Presentation Graphics: I do not use PowerPoint in my presentations. Instead, I only use HTML with web graphics, supporting open media standards. Given a typical trade show projection system, my graphics can be projected from any PC or Mac web browser, either online live or from a floppy disk that I'd supply. We can discuss the technical requirements of your A/V projection system. See examples on my list of speeches.

Recordings: If you will be recording my presentation with any technology, a free and complete "dub" needs to be supplied for my archives and career development. Or, I may ask to plug my portable recorder into your system. (All rights reserved.)

Training & Experience

Training and practice in public speaking track back more than 30 years to high school and college speech and theater. Since becoming a journalist in 1976, along with speeches to civic and professional groups, I developed skills as an adult education teacher. Graduate studies into the Nineties emphasized public communication with depth in classical rhetoric.

As a media trade journalist today, I'm blessed to speak at media conferences and trade shows, nationally and internationally, along with school and public programs. Milestones include the first Internet Everywhere Summit in San Francisco, the first Internet World India in Delhi and the landmark Internet World 2000 in Sydney, Australia. Back in 1989, I coordinated and hosted the Denver leg of the first Jason Project -- live interactive satellite telecasts from the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea.

I perform for joy as a storyteller, and I might tell stories in my speeches to illustrate key points. My style has been described as "upbeat, conversational, real, cordial, humorous, compelling..."
